Phasma
Coming in 2025
In the multimedia performance PHASMA the qualities of light are rendered in a multisensory, immersive environment as metaphors for the diversity, and variability of human identity. Argyris and Kyriaki collaborate with a group of artists to create a performance space designed as a workshop which comes to life by the performing duo.
A researcher focuses on the study of a strange phenomenon: a dancing entity which embodies light by adopting its vivid forms and energetic qualities, by polymorphic wearables. The researcher tries to study, understand and tame light through experiments. But the queer luminous existence always escapes sometimes as a wave and sometimes as a particle. How does light actually behave?
The two embark on a colorful exploration of all the possible areas of the light phasma, discovering hidden and bold characteristics of their personalities which either identify or lead to conflict.
Artificial lighting, kinetic sculptures, projection surfaces and light devices such as analogue and digital projectors are the instruments, tools and methods that activate the space, the moving bodies and the audience.

The first version of the wearable sculpture was designed and created by Argyris Angeli having as inspiration Euripide’s “Ippolito”, during the fashion workshop which took place in fall 2023 at Peiraios 260, with Angelos Tsakiris as its main workshop leader, under the Morphes initiative by Athens Epidaurus Festival. Morphes are part of the AEF’s Open Plan platform with the support of the International Network of Ancient Drama.
The photoshoot of the wearable sculpture took place in collaboration with AKTO college and the I.I.E.K. Photography programme. Special thanks to students Tzortzis Kofinas, Ioanna Benovia, Stella El Hein, Andreas Chountas, their tutor Ioulia Ladogianni and the AKTO Ι.ΣΑΕΚ vice-director Maria Dikaiou. Part of Argyris Angeli’s research was undertaken during the art workshop “Urban Longing” by Yorgos Sapountzis at the I. & R. Duncan Dance Research Center. The workshop took place in June 2023 as part of the “Engaged Scenography” programme organised by the Goethe-Institut Athen and the Institut français de Grèce.
